A relief is a type of artwork that has depth.

Instead of being completely flat like a painting or a mosaic, parts of the image are raised forward at different heights.

In a brick relief, darker or more important areas (like facial features) are usually built thicker, while background areas stay flatter. This creates a subtle 3D effect that makes the image feel more sculptural and more realistic when viewed in person.
